Yash Dayal Faces Another Career Setback Amid Off-Field Controversy
Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Yash Dayal has been in the headlines for weeks—unfortunately, not for his on-field performances. The left-arm quick, who played a key role in RCB’s IPL title-winning campaign, has found his personal life under intense public scrutiny.
Earlier this year, Dayal faced serious allegations of sexual harassment, surfacing just months after lifting the IPL trophy with the richest franchise in the league. The controversy has not only impacted his public image but is now beginning to affect his professional opportunities.
In the latest blow to his career, Dayal—who was on the verge of earning his maiden India cap—has been barred from participating in the UP T20 League, Uttar Pradesh’s premier domestic T20 competition.
This development comes at a crucial time when the 26-year-old was steadily building momentum towards an international call-up. With the ongoing off-field issues, his future in competitive cricket now faces significant uncertainty.
Yash Dayal’s UP T20 League Future in Doubt Amid Ban Reports
One of India’s most promising domestic pacers, Yash Dayal, is facing fresh uncertainty over his participation in the ongoing UP T20 League. The left-arm quick, currently signed with the Gorakhpur Lions for ₹7 lakh in this season’s auction, has reportedly been barred by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) from taking part in the tournament.
According to Dainik Jagran, the decision is linked to the sexual harassment cases registered against Dayal earlier this year. The allegations have already cast a shadow over his career, and this reported ban could further derail his progress.
However, the situation remains unclear. Vishesh Gaur, owner of Gaur Sons, which operates the Gorakhpur Lions, told reporters that the franchise has not received any official communication from the UPCA regarding Dayal’s exclusion.
“We have not been given any letter or notice about his ban,” Gaur clarified, adding that the team is still awaiting clarity on whether the 26-year-old pacer will be allowed to play.
With conflicting reports and no official statement from the UPCA yet, Dayal’s immediate future in the tournament hangs in the balance.
What is the Yash Dayal Case?
The controversy surrounding Yash Dayal, one of India’s top domestic pacers, began when a woman from Ghaziabad accused him of rape. On July 6, she lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad district under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This section pertains to sexual intercourse by deceitful means, including false promises of marriage.
The Allegations
The complainant claims she met Dayal about five years ago. According to her, Dayal repeatedly promised to marry her but kept postponing it over the years. She later alleged that he was also involved with other women.
Dayal’s Response
Dayal has denied the allegations and filed a petition to have the FIR quashed. In his plea, he argued that charges under Section 69 require proof that a marriage promise was made without any genuine intent to fulfil it. He has also sought protection from arrest while the case is ongoing.
His legal team maintains that the accusations are false and do not meet the legal requirements for the offence mentioned in the FIR.
Impact on His Career
Dayal, whose career highlight came when he joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), now finds his future clouded by legal troubles. The UP T20 League was meant to be another platform to showcase his talent, but reports of a UPCA ban may keep him out of the competition.
If the ban is confirmed, the 27-year-old could miss a major domestic tournament, further damaging his chances in future competitions. For now, the case remains sub judice, with the next court hearing expected soon. Whether he will play for the Gorakhpur Lions this season is still uncertain.
