WTC 2027 Final:Team India’s Road to WTC 2027 Final After 2-2 Draw in England

The Indian Cricket Team has made a good start to the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. In their first series of this cycle, they played a five-match Test series against England in England, and the series ended in a 2-2 draw.

Even though India could not reach the final of the previous WTC cycle (2023-25), they bounced back strongly this time. They won two important matches in the series. One of their best performances came at Edgbaston in Birmingham, where they defeated England by 336 runs. This was India’s biggest Test win by runs on overseas soil.

India also won the final match of the series at The Oval in a thrilling contest. They beat England by just 6 runs — which is now India’s closest win (by runs) in Test match history. The star of that match was Mohammed Siraj, who took 5 wickets in the second innings and 9 wickets in the match.

Thanks to these two wins, India moved up to third place in the ICC WTC 2025-27 points table. They currently have a Points Percentage (PCT) of 46.67%. Only Australia and Sri Lanka are ahead of them at the moment.

The good news for Indian fans is that the team has several home series coming up. Since India has a strong record at home, they are expected to win more matches and improve their position in the table. If they continue performing well, India has a great chance of qualifying for the WTC 2027 final.

WTC 2027 Final India Qualification Chances After 2-2 Series Draw vs England

Team India still has a good chance to reach the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2027 Final, even after drawing the Test series 2-2 against England. In the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle, India will play a total of six seriesthree at home and three away.

To stay in the race for the final, India needs to win at least four of their remaining five series. While this doesn’t guarantee a spot in the top two, it will most likely give them a strong chance to qualify.

Led by Shubman Gill, the Indian team will need to perform consistently well, especially in overseas conditions, to secure enough points. They missed out on the final in the last WTC cycle (2023-25), so the pressure will be on this time around.

In the recent series against England, India had a slight edge in the final Test match as England were without their captain Ben Stokes, who is considered one of the best Test leaders in the world. India made the most of that opportunity with a close win at The Oval.

Now, with important matches coming up — especially at home where India is traditionally strong — Shubman Gill and his team will need to stay focused if they want to book their place in the WTC 2027 Final.

India’s Upcoming Test Series in WTC 2025-27 Cycle: Full Schedule After England Draw

After drawing the five-match series 2-2 against England, Team India is all set to continue their journey in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. With important series ahead, the team will look to gain as many points as possible to boost their chances of reaching the WTC 2027 final.

What’s Next for India in WTC 2025-27?

India will play a two-match Test series against the West Indies at home in October 2025. The first Test will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from 2nd October, and the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from 10th to 14th October. Given West Indies’ recent form struggles, India will go into the series as strong favourites.

In November 2025, India will take on South Africa, the defending champions of WTC 2023-25, in another two-match Test series at home. The first match is scheduled at Eden Gardens, Kolkata starting 14th November, and the second at Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati.

India’s upcoming away tours include:

  • A two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in August 2026

  • A two-match series in New Zealand in October 2026

The final and most crucial part of India’s schedule will be a five-match Test series against Australia at home in January 2027, which could prove to be the decider in India’s quest for a spot in the WTC Final.

📅 India’s WTC 2025-27 Schedule (After England Series)

Date Series Venue Number of Tests
October 2025 India vs West Indies Home 2
November 2025 India vs South Africa Home 2
August 2026 Sri Lanka vs India Away 2
October 2026 New Zealand vs India Away 2
January 2027 India vs Australia Home 5

With plenty of home matches and momentum from their recent win over England, Shubman Gill and his team have a solid chance to qualify for the WTC 2027 final, provided they stay consistent and grab maximum points in these upcoming series.
