RCB Chinnaswamy Stadium Unsafe: KSCA Looks for New Venue for Maharaja T20 League

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is facing a big challenge. The famous M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, home of RCB (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), has been declared unsafe for big events. Because of this, KSCA may have to change the venue for the upcoming Maharaja T20 League 2025.

Why is Chinnaswamy Stadium Declared Unsafe?

Recently, during RCB’s IPL title win celebrations, a stampede took place around the stadium. It was a tragic incident where 11 people lost their lives, and more than 50 were seriously injured.

After this, the Karnataka Government set up a one-man committee to investigate the matter. The report clearly said that Chinnaswamy Stadium is not safe for large-scale events. It recommended that such events should be held at better and safer venues.

No Police Clearance for Maharaja T20

KSCA had planned to hold the Maharaja T20 League at Chinnaswamy from August 11 to August 27. But now, the State Police has not given clearance, due to the ongoing investigation. The KSCA and RCB were both held responsible for poor management during the RCB event.

Because of this, the KSCA is now thinking about other options to host the tournament.

 What Are the Alternative Venues?

KSCA is now looking at two main venues:

  1. Alur Stadium (Near Bengaluru):

    • Good drainage and ground quality

    • Ideal for the rainy season

    • But no floodlights or seats for fans

  2. Wadeyar Ground (Mysuru):

    • Better seating and lighting

    • Not as centrally located as Bengaluru

The KSCA had earlier announced that matches would be held without spectators (behind closed doors), but now venue change is very likely.

 Women’s Maharani T20 Also Affected

The Maharani T20 League, the women’s version of the tournament, was also planned at Chinnaswamy. Now, the group stage will be played at Alur starting from August 4, and even the final may be moved to another venue.

BCCI Also Changed Duleep Trophy Venue

The BCCI had planned to host the Duleep Trophy final at Chinnaswamy. But after reading the safety report, the board has decided to shift the venue. This shows that even national-level matches may no longer be held at this stadium for now.

KSCA May Face Big Financial Loss

Changing the venue at the last moment is not easy. The KSCA had already booked hotels and made all arrangements in Bengaluru, thinking the entire tournament would happen at Chinnaswamy. Now, they may lose a lot of money.

KSCA was also planning to host the opening match of the Women’s ODI World Cup, as well as a semi-final and final at Chinnaswamy. But now, all those plans are in doubt.

 Conclusion

The future of Chinnaswamy Stadium as a big cricket venue is uncertain. KSCA must now focus on safety, proper planning, and fan experience. The upcoming Maharaja T20 League may still be a success—but only if quick and smart decisions are made.
