Kapil Dev Lauds Mohammed Siraj’s Match-Winning Performances Against England
Former Indian cricket captain and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev has heaped praise on fast bowler Mohammed Siraj for his stellar performance in the recently concluded five-match Test series between India and England. Siraj emerged as the leading wicket-taker of the series, claiming 23 wickets in nine innings, and played a vital role in India’s success.
Kapil Dev, known for his straightforward and honest assessments, described Siraj as a “real hero” for the way he stuck to his game plan and bowled with discipline. According to Kapil, Siraj’s strength lay in keeping the ball in the right areas, particularly around the off stump, without trying to overcomplicate his approach.
What made Siraj’s performance even more remarkable was the fact that he led the Indian bowling attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah for two of the five matches. Kapil admired the courage and leadership Siraj displayed under pressure, stating:
“Siraj is a real hero. The good thing is that he did not try to do anything extraordinary. He simply kept the ball in the right areas, especially around off stump, and success followed. Siraj was leading the bowling attack [in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence] and he did it courageously. Indian cricket needs more Sirajs.”
This series has further cemented Siraj’s reputation as one of India’s most dependable Test bowlers, with Kapil’s comments highlighting his growing stature in world cricket.
Kapil Dev Praises Mohammed Siraj’s Composure and Match-Winning Spell at The Oval
Former Indian cricket captain and 1983 World Cup-winning legend Kapil Dev has lauded Mohammed Siraj for displaying remarkable mental strength and leadership in the final Test against England at The Oval.
Reflecting on the tense finale, Kapil highlighted how Siraj stayed positive and focused despite a tough moment on Day Four, when he dropped a catch. Instead of letting it affect him, Siraj came back stronger on Day Five, delivering a match-winning spell.
“Siraj was in high spirits and lifted the entire team on that last day. [Jamie] Smith was a dangerous batter and when Siraj removed him, it brought the belief back into the Indian team. Siraj dropped a catch on Day Four, yet he bowled his best after that. That’s a rare and great quality. He never looked under pressure,” Kapil said.
The scenario was tense — England needed 35 runs, while India required four wickets to clinch victory. Siraj’s spirited bowling dismantled England’s resistance, and India went on to win by a narrow six-run margin.
Siraj’s performance was nothing short of sensational, finishing the match with career-best Test figures of 9/190 (4/86 in the first innings and 5/104 in the second). This win helped the Shubman Gill-led side level the series 2-2, ensuring they retained the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy.
Kapil also used the moment to underline that success on the cricket field is about skill, heart, and teamwork — not language.
“We may not speak better English, but our team has proved that speaking English is not necessary when it comes to winning a cricket match,” he added.
Siraj’s ability to bounce back under pressure, lead the attack, and inspire his teammates earned him high praise from one of India’s greatest ever cricketers.
