Jasprit Bumrah Fitness Update for Asia Cup 2025
Latest Update
India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the Asia Cup 2025, as per a report from PTI. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to rest him to manage his workload, especially after his strong performances in the ongoing Test series against England.
Why is Bumrah Being Rested?
Bumrah recently returned from injury and has been bowling brilliantly. But to keep him fit for the upcoming home Test series against West Indies and South Africa, the BCCI doesn’t want to take any risk.
“If Bumrah plays the Asia Cup and India reaches the final, it will be tough for him to recover in time for the West Indies series,” said a BCCI source.
What’s the Bigger Plan?
The BCCI wants Bumrah to play a key role in the World Test Championship (WTC) and also keep him fresh for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in February-March 2026.

Bumrah Gets a Break After England Tests
India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad after playing three out of five Test matches in the ongoing series against England. This decision was part of the BCCI’s workload management plan to keep him fit for upcoming major assignments.
Past Injury Still a Concern
Earlier this year, Bumrah played all five matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 against Australia. However, in the final Test, he suffered a back injury that kept him out of cricket for four months, including the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
To avoid a similar situation, the BCCI limited him to just three Tests in the England series.
Heavy Workload in Just Three Games
Even in three games, Bumrah had a high workload, bowling around 120 overs. In the 4th Test at Manchester, he looked tired and slower in the second innings. Based on his condition, the Indian team decided to rest him early before the final Test.
No Matches in August – Long Break for Bumrah
India has no scheduled matches in August 2025, which means Bumrah will now enjoy a long rest. If he skips the Asia Cup 2025, he could get over two months of recovery time.
Focus on Tests Against West Indies and South Africa
Bumrah is expected to return for the Test series against West Indies and South Africa, which are part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle. These matches will be crucial for India’s WTC points.
