Indian Stars Likely to Miss Asia Cup 2025: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh and Others

The Asia Cup 2025 is around the corner, with the ACC tournament set to commence on September 9. The countdown has started as the teams have begun their preparations in what will be the 17th edition of the event..

This year’s Asia Cup will be held across two venues in the United Arab Emirates — Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The final is scheduled for September 28, with a total of eight teams competing in the T20I format.

Team India, one of the hot favourites to lift the trophy, has been drawn in Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against the hosts on September 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

However, the upcoming edition will also witness some big names missing from India’s squad — including a few of the country’s most promising batting talents.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh to Miss Out on Asia Cup 2025 India Squad

The Asia Cup 2025 India squad has been creating buzz ahead of its official announcement. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side as he continues his recovery from sports hernia surgery, but the rest of the lineup remains under wraps. However, PTI reports have shed light on the likely composition of the team — and some big names may be missing.

According to the report, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Sai Sudharsan are unlikely to make the cut, with selectors having already locked in their top five batters.

Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are expected to open for India, a pairing that has delivered consistently in recent series. The middle order will likely feature Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya, with the selectors keen to maintain the established core.

A BCCI source told PTI:

“Abhishek is currently the top-ranked T20 batter in the ICC rankings. Sanju was brilliant with both bat and gloves last season. Shubman had a strong IPL, and his Test form is incredible, but fitting everyone into the top order will be a big challenge.”

With such fierce competition for spots, even some of India’s most promising young talents may have to watch the Asia Cup from the sidelines this year.

Fight Between Axar Patel and Shubman Gill for the Vice-Captain Spot

The reports added that one of Shubman Gill or Axar Patel will be deputy to Suryakumar Yadav in the Asia Cup 2025. Patel was the vice-captain of the team in the last series that India played, while Gill has impressed many with his leadership during the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.

There is also a race between Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel for the second wicketkeeper in the side. It is learned that after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Jitesh has made a strong case.

All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is also set to miss the Asia Cup, and in his absence, Shivam Dube, who made a comeback against England, is likely to step in as the backup all-rounder to Hardik Pandya. Not only this, but even Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be part of the series.

Along with him, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna will be there as other fast bowlers. While Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and one of Kuldeep Yadav or Varun Chakravarthy will boost the spin department.
