Rishabh Pant Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2025
India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2025 and is also doubtful for the Test series against West Indies due to a foot injury he sustained during the recently concluded Test series against England.
Pant injured his toe while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes on the first day of the 4th Test at Old Trafford (July 23-27). He was immediately ruled out of that game and the 5th Test at The Oval (July 31 – August 4) as well.
According to reports from the Times of India, the 27-year-old has suffered a toe fracture but will not require surgery. However, the injury will sideline him for at least six weeks, which effectively rules him out of the Asia Cup 2025 (September 9–28, UAE) and possibly the two-match Test series against West Indies (October 2–14 in Ahmedabad and Delhi).

Impact on Team India
In white-ball formats, India has other wicketkeeping options like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul (if fit), so Pant’s absence might not significantly affect the Asia Cup 2025 squad.
However, in the Test format, Pant’s absence is a bigger concern. He had a brilliant run in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy (5-Test series vs England), where he scored 479 runs in 4 matches, including 2 centuries and 3 fifties.
His ability to change the game with aggressive counter-attacking batting, especially in tough conditions, makes him an invaluable asset in red-ball cricket.
Dhruv Jurel replaced Pant in the 5th Test at The Oval from July 31-Aug 4. If Pant is not fit, Jurel will be India’s wicketkeeper-batter in the West Indies series too. India’s Asia Cup 2025 starts on September 10 against UAE in Dubai, then against Pakistan on September 14 and against Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 18.
Super Four starts on September 20 and final is on September 28. Matches will be in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. India beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in 2023 final. They are the defending champions in this tournament.
